August 5, 2018 – Corn, Corn, and More Corn

Today started at 3:00 AM in Morton, IL and 9 1/2 hours later I am in Hudson, WI with a safe place for the car and a soft pillow for me (Thanks Bob & Ruth).

I have never seen so much corn and rain.  Iowa knows how to put together a rain storm.  From 50 miles away you see the storm building.  From 25 miles away it starts getting intimidating.  For a guy from Texas where we think we know big storms, we’ve got nothing on Iowa and I am pretty sure I drove through what folks in Iowa would call a mild storm.

The car loves rain and performs much better now the temps have dropped below 100 degrees.  My 4 hour drive to OKC took four liter bottles of water.  Today I only used two liters over 9 1/2 hours.

First stop was Des Moines, Iowa and the rains stopped just in time.  This is a great capitol.  You don’t need a nav system when you get to town, you see the gold dome right away and it is like a beacon that can’t be missed.

Lucked into this picture.  Location! Location! Location!  In and out without anyone seeing me,  I was ready to ask forgiveness, but the picture speaks for it self.

Next stop – St. Paul, MN.  The skies have cleared and I must admit, I was not ready for this picture of Minnesota’s Capitol Building.  I drove up on the sidewalk to get off the street as a courtesy to those driving on the roadway and that is my story and I am sticking with it.

I was not prepared for two great state capitols in a row.  I parked on the sidewalk and the day could not be better.  Here is another similar shot and did I mention – Location! Location! Location!

Tomorrow Madison and I hope my luck holds out on Location! Location, Location!
